"That's a little better," she said as she turned around. "Maybe I'll just, here, wait a sec." She stopped and turned her back to me, then with some difficulty, pulled her bra off, first one arm going into her shirt and the bra strap coming off of it, then the other arm. Her eyes met up with mine and her face blushed and she quickly looked away. I saw Amy's eyes looking discreetly at me for a brief moment, eyeing my chest and stomach. Not far into this leg of our hike, I was sweating hard and I decided to take my shirt off, hanging it out of the back of my shorts. The sun was beating down on us as we walked and the trees around us prevented any wind from cooling us off. "There's a nice little creek about a mile away, we can hike over there." She showed me a number of very fine, though rough, sketches of the building. "Let me see," I said, standing up and walking over to her. She turned towards me, stretching her back, and saw that I was staring. I was looking at her from behind now and I could see perfectly how those long legs ended in a firm, round rear end. She had a thin body, remarkably long legs, smooth and bare, a pair of short shorts topping the lovely vision. I didn't know her age, but I would estimate she was about fourteen. A bit later she stood up and stretched from my vantage point a hundred feet away from her I could give her body a bit of discreet admiration, and I noticed really for the first time how very sexy the girl was. Amy sat down in the sun and started sketching, and I found some shade and worked on my journal. It was a blazingly hot day and we were both sweating hard when we finally got to the old mine, a crumbling wooden structure a hundred years old and some deep ravines cut into the mountainside. I waited a few minutes, then walked over to her cabin and knocked on the door. From the front porch of our cabin, I saw Amy's family load in their car and take off, sans Amy. I begged off, saying that I wanted to go for a hike. The next day after lunch my wife took the kids to the waterpark. "So," I said, "if you're not going with your family to laser tag tomorrow, we could go up to that old mine." Calumet too much longer, OK?"īilly ran off after the card game ended, leaving Amy and I alone again. "Yeah, Billy told me." She made her lack of enthusiasm obvious. So, Amy, we were thinking of going to the laser tag place tomorrow." We were well into the next game of War when a man walked into the room. John Calumet." Billy shook my hand and sat down with a thump. "Billy, this is." she gestured to me, "um." "Yeah it is," she said with similar tenor. "Laser tag is fun," I said, my tenor lacking conviction on the point. "They have laser tag at the place too, Dad said we can go back there tomorrow!" "Hi, Billy," she said with a somewhat exasperated tone. "Amy!" he shouted, "it was soooo awesome at the go cart place!" Right then a boy came running into the room. I was struck immediately by how beautiful she looked when she smiled. She had a sweet little smile, the first time I'd seen her smile. "It's kinda hard to find, maybe I can take you up there sometime? You should draw it, it'd look really cool with a dragon in it!" There's a really cool one up the hill a ways, that's what I mean about cool stuff to do here. She took out a sketch book there were several well-executed pencil drawings of fantasy animals-dragons, unicorns, and some rather scary looking ghost-like creatures. "Really? You got any drawings here you can show me?" "I don't know," she said, finishing the deal. She looked at me and gave a funny giggle-snort. They always do what my brother wants to do." "Yeah, I know, my family's at the go cart place, but I didn't want to go. Because there's all kinds of cool stuff to do here." "So what's your name?" I asked her after she'd beat me once and was dealing the second round. "OK, but it's been a long time since I played War, you'll have to remind me how." "Let's play War," she said, and she started to deal. I got up off the couch and walked over to the table she was sitting at. She looked at me again with that little blush in her cheeks. "You want to play a card game?" I asked her. She picked up a deck of cards and started shuffling them. How could she be bored, here, in the middle of the most beautiful mountains on Earth? "I understand," I said, wanting to sound sympathetic, even though I didn't really understand. She turned to look at me, and for a moment her cheeks reddened just slightly. I put down my journal and looked up at her. It was the sort of face that would blush crimson pink whenever she was nervous or embarrassed.įrom across the room I heard her sigh, audibly. Long dark brown hair cascaded around the face, curling under her chin. They spread from her cheeks across the bridge of her nose, a few scattered on her forehead as well, framing her dark blue eyes.
